For many centuries the Prias and Wanitas of Bali loved nothing more than to stand about in their lovely gardens at home, the Wanitas artfully balancing enormous floral displays on their heads, the Prias enthusiastically banging drums and gongs and generally making a hell of a racket.
What could be more fun ? Well, nothing, for many a long year until, much like the stump jump plow, a revolutionary idea came along and transformed the ancient practise.
History does not record the name of the heroic innovator but at some stage, someone, somewhere, threw open the garden gate and marched out onto the street calling on the stunned others to follow. They did and have never looked back.
